which is designed to showcase the achievements of Warsash Officer Cadets.
The Academy presents annual awards
to Officer Cadets at the main summer Passing Out Ceremony. A second smaller event is held in December each year for those students in January intakes. Information
regarding the awards is given below and for pictures of the latest
presentations and details of past winners please click on the headings.
Oficer Cadet passing-Out Ceremony - June 2007
On Saturday 23 June 2007 sixty three Deck, Engine and Electro-Technical Officer Cadets
celebrated the successful conclusion of their cadetship at the Passing Out
Ceremony held at the Guildhall in Southampton.
The cadets were supported by family, friends, company representatives
and Academy staff who joined them to mark the end of their three
year cadetship. The ceremony included the presentation of a number
of awards for achievement, which are detailed below. Bob Joughin, Deputy
Director of Warsash Maritime Academy, gave an address in which he
congratulated the cadets on their success and asked them to reflect
on the support that they had received from family, company and lecturing
staff throughout the sometimes challenging training programme. Don Millar of Carnival UK gave an address on behalf of the industry
and encouraged cadets to take full advantage of the career prospects
that were now open to them.

Officer Cadet Passing Out Ceremony - December 2006
On Saturday 2 December 2006, thirty-one Deck Officer Cadets celebrated the successful conclusion of their cadetship at the Passing Out Ceremony held at the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble, Hampshire
The Deck and Engineer Officer Cadet of the
Year Awards
These are awarded to the Deck and Marine Engineer Officer Cadets who have performed
to the highest standard throughout their cadetship and whose overall
attainment in theoretical and practical elements is assessed as
being outstanding among their peers by the Academy's lecturing
staff.
The Matthew Flinders Navigation Cup
This is awarded to the Deck Cadet who has best contributed to the
ideal: 'to promote excellence in navigation'.
The Isambard Brunel Engineering Cup
This is awarded to the Marine Engineer Cadet who has best contributed to
the ideal: 'to promote excellence in engineering practice'.
The Commendation for Individual Achievement
This award is made to the Deck or Marine Engineer Cadet who has demonstrated
exceptional motivation, effort and determination to bring their
cadetship to a successful conclusion. The chosen cadet is presented
with the Sword of Honour.
In addition to the above, Warsash cadets also win awards
presented by external bodies and some of these are listed below.

The Marine Society Deck and Engine NVQ Portfolios
of the Year
These are national awards for the Deck and Marine Engine Officer Cadets who submit
the best NVQ Portfolios for assessment.
The Wakeford Maritime Trust - Annual Student
Award
This award is made in memory of Captain Wakeford, a past head of
Warsash Maritime Academy, and is presented in rotation to students
from the Academy, Southampton University and Southampton Solent
University, who's performance on their course is considered to have
been exemplary.
IMarEST Prize for Engineering
The Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology present
this national award to the outstanding Marine Engineer Officer Cadet of the year.
Bevis Minter Award
The Merchant Navy officer's union, NUMAST, present this award in
rotation to the outstanding Cadet of the Year from each of the principal
UK maritime training colleges in turn.
