Warsash Maritime Academy offers a Basic Safety Training
Week (5 Days) as approved under STCW’95. These training weeks
are run at various times throughout the year. These courses can be taken as a package, or are
also offered individually.

Course Description
The course forms part of the mandatory basic safety training for
all seafarers assigned safety or pollution prevention duties. Its
objectives are to give basic induction training in safety procedures
and accident prevention and to familiarise personnel with the employment
conditions and working environment on board merchant vessels.

Course Description
This course is designed to form part of the mandatory basic safety
training for all seafarers with designated safety duties. It deals
with the precautions to be taken to minimise the risk of fires aboard
ships, the way in which fires are caused and the first aid means
of extinguishing them.
The course includes practical training in the use of fire extinguishers,
hoses and other fire fighting equipment. It also covers the use
of breathing apparatus for fire fighting and rescue purposes.
The theory sessions are conducted by experienced master mariners
followed by practical exercises on the fire ground and in a multi-storey
steel fire unit fitted with simulated shipboard compartments, which
is used for live fire training.

Course Description
This one-day course is designed to form part of the mandatory basic
safety training for seafarers.
It deals with the actions to be taken by individuals to protect
themselves in emergency situations and includes practical training
in the use of lifejackets and inflatable liferafts.
Exercises are carefully supervised by qualified staff
and can be undertaken by non-swimmers.
The training pool used has been specially equipped
with a jumping platform, emergency alarms, water spray, sound and
lighting effects in order to enhance the realism of the procedures
undertaken.
This course may be integrated with other basic
training, such as ‘Fire Prevention and Fire fighting’
or ‘Elementary First Aid’ in order to provide a combination
that will complement an individual company’s internal training
programme.
