Petrochemical Training/ Familiarisation

Petrochemical training at Warsash covers a wide range of courses designed to meet the safety needs of the industry and to provide mandatory tanker safety endorsements. Petroleum, chemical and liquefied gas tanker operations are covered, as is the transport of dangerous goods by sea.

Our Liquid Cargo Operations Simulator (LICOS) is used to develop the professional skills of officers who are engaged in the handling of bulk liquid cargoes by simulating the loading and discharging cycles of a variety of tankers. All aspects of the planning and execution of liquid cargo handling and the solving of problems that may arise can be demonstrated and practised in the safe environment of the simulator.

Course Duration 2 Days

Course Description
DNV Competence Assessment for Shipboard LNG Cargo Operations is offered as part of the DNV SeaSkill initiative; it is a 2 day assessment for experienced officers. Day 1 entails a multiple-choice assessment(candidates log into a DNV server) in order to assess the level of underpinning knowledge. The remainder of the day is familiarisation with the spherical and membrane simulator models of the Liquid Cargo Simulator, which is then used for Day 2 and the practical assessments. These are conducted in real time and are assessed to the DNV standard. Each exercise is de-briefed and oral question follow. Certification is achieved through DNV.

Course Duration 4½ Days

Course Description
The Liquid Cargo Operations Simulator (LICOS) at Warsash provides real time simulation of the process flow control systems used in the storage and transfer of potentially hazardous bulk liquids from shore to ship and ship to shore.

Warsash Maritime Academy has two simulators onsite which can accommodate 6 and 5 persons respectively. Each with a PC and two large high resolution monitors for candidate use. There are a set of instructors terminals through which exercises may be selected, system malfunctions injected or parameters changed, and individual candidate performance monitored.

The candidate controls all aspects of the model directly. A communications system is incorporated to provide the simulation of ship/shore communications and allow direct contact between the instructor and the candidate.

Currently LICOS is capable of representing the controls, equipment, machinery, instrumentation and alarms associated with 8 carriers including:
