Course Description
This GMDSS qualification is designed for mariners
who will be operating within GMDSS Area A1 (VHF range) only, the
GOC is required for those who will be operating Outside A1 areas.
The course covers all the requirements for this certification. All
candidates also receive a comprehensive set of course notes, which
in addition to enabling self study whilst on the course, will be
a valuable reference manual when the candidate returns to his/her
ship.
The ROC is also the minimum GMDSS qualification that
the MCA will accept for certificate of competency revalidation.

sessions are used to allow the candidate to put into practice
the knowledge and skills developed whilst on the course.
The GMDSS laboratory is available for self-study. Mock examination
papers are set as homework every evening in preparation for
the written paper examinations.

Course Description
The course covers three main areas:
- Regulations and procedures
- Demonstration and maintenance of equipment
- ‘Safety of Life at Sea’ and practical
operations
The certificate qualifies the holder to operate a
suitably licensed marine radiotelephony, radio telex or satellite
mobile earth station.
The course allows the candidate to acquire detailed
practical knowledge of the equipment of a ships station, Digital
Selective Calling (DSC), the principles of Narrow Band Direct Printing,
Telex over Radio Systems and to INMARSAT systems.
Operational procedures and practices and the satisfactory
exchange of communications relevant to the safety of life at sea
are also covered in the syllabus.

Course Description
Designed primarily for ETO’s to enable them to have a better
understanding for the maintenance of GMDSS equipment. This course
may be advantageous for Professional Yachtsmen giving them an understanding
of the maintenance requirements and soldering techniques.
