About this course
In this unit paradigms and documented cases of good and bad practice are used to critically evaluate approaches to risk and safety management within the shipping industry.
Students will undertake a detailed examination of the relationship between the shipboard and onshore management of risk and safety and explore implications in terms of the commercial and safety aims of a shipping operation. In this context the unit focuses on the requirements of international maritime legislation, as well as flag state and port state requirements.
This unit is one of the four comprising the Maritime Safety Management optional strand within the MSc Shipping Operations.
