Course Description
The course takes place over 1 day. The morning is spent in the classroom discussing the definitions and recognition of enclosed spaces, accident case histories, Permits to Work, atmosphere hazards and test equipment, ventilation, isolation, PPE, communications and crew duties during enclosed space entries and rescues. The afternoon session takes place within the Fire School ‘cold unit’ with practical exercises simulating enclosed space entry with completion of a Permit to Work, use of atmosphere test equipment, communications, entry supervision and simulated self rescue.
Course Objectives
On completion of the training, course participants will have sufficient knowledge and understanding to enable them to:

Recognise potential dangerous enclosed spaces aboard a vessel

Complete a typical enclosed space entry Permit to Work

Carry out the safe testing of an atmosphere prior to enclosed space entry using typical industry test equipment including knowledge of the maintenance & testing/calibration requirements of said equipment

Carry out a safe enclosed space entry

Carry out self rescue from an enclosed space

Carry out safety attendant role
