Course Description
The master, and any other person in charge of the medical care, on a UK flagged
vessel is required to undertake refresher training in medical care at least every five years
in accordance with:

The Merchant Shipping (Training and Certification) Regulations 1997 and Part 6 of the MCA Training and Certifications Guidance – MGN 96 (M)

This course ensures the seafarer designated to take charge of medical care on board ship is able to maintain and update his skills and knowledge.
On completion, the seafarer will have sufficient knowledge of medical stores and equipment to be able to:

Diagnose medical problems on board

Provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board

Participate in coordinated schemes for medical assistance to ships
On successful completion of the course, students will receive the certificate of Updated Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship.
NB: This is an intensive course and students are expected to have a good level of knowledge and skill retention that will be assessed at course commencement.
