MCA to STCW'95 –A-VI/4-2

Prerequisites
|
The candidate must:
- Be at least 16 years of age
- Hold the certificate of Proficiency in Medical First Aid On Board Ship in accordance with section A-VI/4-1 of the STCW code.
Or
- Hold a Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship certificate or its Update in accordance with section A-VI/4-2 of the STCW code
Proof of prerequisites is required for inspection at course commencement.

Assessment
|
By short answer question papers and assessment of competence in
practical skills.
|

Teaching Methods
|
Mixture of theory and practical sessions. Students are required to
undertake some study outside of classroom hours.

Course Description
This five-day course is for seafarers designated to take charge of medical care on board ship and for those requiring certificates of competency. On completion, the seafarer will have sufficient knowledge of medical stores and equipment on board to be able to:

Diagnose medical problems on board

Provide medical care to the sick and injured while they remain on board

Participate in coordinated schemes for medical assistance to ships
On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a Proficiency in Medical Care On Board Ship Certificate.
