Moving to Timsbury

Moving to Timsbury LakeWarsash Maritime Academy’s internationally acclaimed manned model fleet left its Marchwood base of twenty years and journeyed inland to its new location at one of the UK’s oldest existing reservoirs on Wednesday 24 November.

The last ship handling course run at Marchwood was a 2½ course that finished on the 10th November 2010. After this, the staff based at Marchwood Lake began to close down the facility that had housed the Ship Handling training for 30 years.

The five tonnes, nine metre long electric powered scale models of real ships – including a tanker, a bulk carrier and a passenger ferry – were carried by road to the new Manned Model Shiphandling Centre site at Timsbury, nr Romsey and were placed on the lake, ready for the new courses to begin in 2011.
