The Merchant Navy Medal
The Merchant Navy Medal was awarded to 18 recipients this year at Trinity House in London on Monday 13th December. One of the Recipients was D.A. JAENICKE, Chairman and Managing Director, Viking Recruitment Ltd., for services to merchant shipping, especially in the expansion of British Officer Cadet opportunities. The patron for the Merchant Navy Medal and presenting the medals was Lord West.
The Merchant Navy Medal provides an opportunity for the industry to recognise in a worthy and public manner, meritorious service by British Merchant Seafarers. The Medal is awarded annually, without bias towards age or rank, to those eligible seafarers who are judged to have made a worthwhile contribution to merchant shipping, its operations, development, personnel, welfare or safety, or who have performed an act of courage afloat. A limited number of medals are also awarded honour's causa to any persons who have made a significant contribution to merchant shipping, its personnel or its affairs, but who are not themselves British Merchant Seafarers.
The Merchant Navy Medal Fund, which relies on income from sponsors, and its Executive Committee exist solely for the purposes of the delivery of the award, which is administered by the Merchant Navy Welfare Board.
