Based in Bangkok, BIMS Maritime is the only private organisation providing quality maritime education, training and consultancy services in Thailand to Thai and international students from the regional countries.
A ‘Letter of Understanding’ was first signed between WMA and BIMS Maritime back in June 2008 for the joint development of Officer of the Watch (OOW) certification programmes, with students completing the early stages of their training with BIMS Maritime and the final certification stage at WMA. The first students were enrolled by BIMS Maritime in September 2008 and will arrive at WMA in April 2011 to complete their programmes.
Andy Hair, Associate Director (Business Operations) at WMA, commented that the visit had been both timely and productive in finalising the arrangements for the first students to arrive at WMA in Spring 2011. “Over the past couple of years we have established excellent relationships with our colleagues in BIMS Maritime and we are looking forward very much to bringing all the developmental work to fruition in 2011. This is an exciting venture for WMA, with potential to increase the numbers of overseas students undertaking the programmes in future years, as well as possibly extending our collaborative efforts to other areas of mutual interest.”
