St Mary's campus

Our new maritime training centre for the tuition of officer cadets and first certification courses is located within the grounds of Southampton City College in the heart of Southampton city centre. St Mary's campus is centrally located, making it a great place to study, and easy to get to. It's just a 10-minute walk to the main Solent University campus at East Park Terrace and a short walk from the parks, cafes, shops (including West Quay) and cinemas.

Getting there by road

If you are are travelling with a sat nav, use the postcode SO14 5GL

Southampton sits at the southern end of the M3 motorway and is just 75 miles (120km) from London, with excellent road links. From the North, London and the Home Counties, the M3, M27 and A34 provide fast, direct road links into the city centre. The A36 is the major route from the West Country, Bristol and Wales. From the East, follow the A27/M27 and depart at Junction 8.

Parking at St Mary’s campus

St Mary’s campus has limited parking capacity on the City College campus. However, there are various pay and display car park spaces nearby. Chapel Road is situated within the Council's Outer Zone/Grey code where you can park for a maximum of 10 hours for £5.50. Southampton has 42 car parks - all Southampton City Council car parks are open 24 hours a day and charges apply seven days a week (except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday).

Getting there by plane

From Heathrow Airport  

By train: Take the Railair coach link from Heathrow Airport to Woking train station. Services to Southampton Central operate from Woking. The total journey time from Heathrow to Southampton is approximately 2 hours. The Railair service runs every 30 minutes and picks up from all four terminals. The cost of a standard ticket for a single (one-way) journey is approximately £34. For more information on the service, please visit the South West Trains website.

By coach: The National Express coach service operates from the bus station at Heathrow Airport to Southampton coach station. On direct services the average journey time is 1 hour and 50 minutes. The cost of a standard ticket for a single journey is approximately £15. Discount coach cards are available for students and young people. From Gatwick Airport 

By train: Train services operate between Gatwick Airport and Southampton Central. The average journey time is 2 hours, and a standard single ticket is approximately £29.

By coach: National Express coach services operate from Gatwick to Southampton coach station, via Heathrow (coach changeover). The average journey time is 4 hours, and standard single tickets start from £25.

From London Stansted Airport 

By train: Rail services operate from Stansted Airport to central London via the London Underground. Direct services to Southampton operate from London Waterloo. The average journey time is 3 hours and 30 minutes, and standard single ticket costs approximately £46.

By coach: National Express coach services operate from the coach station at Stansted Airport to Southampton via Heathrow and central London (coach changeover). The average journey time is 4 hours. A standard single ticket costs approximately £28.

From Southampton Airport 

There are regular buses, trains and taxis from the airport to the centre of Southampton. Buses and taxis are right outside the entrance, while the train station is located a couple of minutes’ walk away and is called Southampton Airport Parkway. The airport is approximately four miles from Southampton city centre and train services to the city run frequently with journey times of ten minutes.

Taxis are available from outside the terminal but need to be booked at the taxi desk inside the airport.

Getting there by train

Southampton Central station is served by direct trains from and to many cities across the country, including London, Birmingham, Oxford, Bristol, Leeds, Brighton and Manchester. London Waterloo is a 1 hour 20 minutes journey to Southampton Central, passing Southampton Airport Parkway on the way. Walking to campus from Southampton Central station

It’s a 20-minute walk to St Mary’s campus. Turn right if you exit via Platform 1 and turn left if you exit Platform 4 and walk up the hilly footpath towards the Civic Centre building (large white stone building with clock tower). Then follow Civic Centre Road and New Road until you reach East Park Terrace with Solent University ahead of you. Turn right onto Palmerston Road, and walk diagonally across Hoglands Park until you reach Kingsway. Cross over Kingsway and turn right onto St Mary's Place and Evans Street, then turn left into St Mary's and Chapel Road is further up on the right with St Mary's campus ahead.

Taking a taxi or bus from Southampton Central station

It is ten minute taxi-ride to the campus, and there are waiting taxis at the exit via Platform 4 (Toys R Us exit). Alternatively, you can get the number 7 Blue Star bus which leaves every 30 minutes from the exit via Platform 4, takes ten-minutes, and drops you outside the campus on Chapel Road.  www.bluestarbus.co.uk

Getting there by bus

The campus is served by several city bus companies operating a wide variety of routes in and around Southampton. The majority of buses stop in the city centre by West Quay, Palmerston Park (behind Primark), the Civic Centre and the High Street (Above Bar Street).
