The department is responsible for the delivery and assessment and maritime courses that lead to the award of academic qualifications and professional certificates of competency for deck, marine engineering and marine electro-technical officers in the Merchant Navy.
With a strong emphasis on the professional requirements for a career at sea, the department is staffed predominantly with current or former seafarers, as well as those with specialist knowledge from marine related industries such as naval architecture or maritime law.
Teaching and learning within the department is a blend of traditional and modern methods designed to develop individual skills and equip students for the challenges faced on board a modern merchant vessel.
The department provides a supportive and professional environment with all of our staff dedicated to ensuring that our students spend a successful and productive period at the Academy.
