Solent University's maritime strategy has reached an exciting new phase, starting with the relocation of officer cadet provision to new premises in Southampton city centre.
The University's new maritime centre for the tuition of first certification of officer cadets is a dedicated building at St Mary's campus, within the grounds of City College.
The move forms part of Solent's ambitious plans to bring part of its professional and higher level maritime education programmes from the Warsash campus to the city centre by 2019.
Teaching for the fire school, maritime safety and offshore, first aid and medical, and seamanship courses will remain at the waterside, lower site of the Warsash campus, with investment plans for new and improved facilities.
The University remains committed to investing in high quality maritime education and training and will continue to build upon the heritage associated with Warsash Maritime Academy in the new premises.
If you have any queries please email us.
The University invested £6m in the renovation of new premises at St Mary's campus. The new maritime centre of excellence opened in September 2017 and provides a distinct modern teaching environment exclusively for seafarers studying for their first Certificate of Competency. How to find St Mary's Campus
St Mary's campus is just a 10-minute walk from the main University campus at East Park Terrace, meaning officer cadets can take full advantage of all the facilities on offer there, including:
Additionally, cadets can use the City College canteen facilities, which serve breakfast, lunch and refreshments, with indoor and outdoor seating.
The location also puts cadets within easy reach of excellent access to rail and bus transport links and the full range of Southampton city centre's amenities.
Cadets at Warsash Maritime Academy have use of the University's David Moxon and Emily Davies student residences. Both residences are located in Southampton city centre and are a short walk from the St Mary's campus, and the University's main East Park Terrace campus.

The teaching provision for Merchant Navy senior officers, commercial yacht certification, bridge, engine and liquid cargo operations simulation courses will remain at the Warsash campus until transition to the East Park Terrace campus from 2018.
For these courses, the University is embarking on a refurbishment programme of the Reginald Mitchell building at its East Park Terrace campus (shown in the image, left). This will include classrooms, labs, workshops and the simulator suite, and is only a ten minute walk from the new building at St Mary's campus.
Tuition for fire fighting, maritime safety and offshore, medical, and seamanship certification will remain at Warsash lower site, with plans for development (subject to planning permissions and funding), including:
