About this course
This is a programme leading to STCW ’95 III/1 Engineer Officer of the Watch (EOOW) Certification for candidates with specialised academic qualifications and/or experience recognised by the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
If you hold engineering qualifications (HNC, HND, or equivalent, or degree) completed in the UK or an EU state, you may apply for an exemption form for the IAMI academic subjects (see MIN 511 for further information). If your qualifications meet the requirements for this programme, you must apply for a Letter of Initial Acceptance and an MNTB Training Record Book. You will also need to send us a completed application form and a full copy of your degree and transcript. If your degree was completed outside of the UK, you must send a copy of your NARIC.
Overseas students must meet the English language requirements.
Before starting the Warsash phase of this programme, you must pass the initial four STCW safety training courses before completing a minimum eight months' sea service within 12 months' industrial experience. This must also include six months' engine room watchkeeping duties. You must also hold a medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA. During the sea service period, you must complete the MNTB Training Record Book to the required standard and complete guided study course material before returning to the Academy.
During the final phase at Warsash, you will you will undertake the required MNTB workshop skills training (unless exempted by the MCA), complete all additional STCW certification courses and attend tutorials prior to undertaking IAMI EK written exams (on general, steam/motor, and instrumentation and control engineering knowledge) and the MCA oral exam.
- Workshop skills training (completion of MNTB Workshop Skills Record Book) - if required.
- Guided study course for general, motor/steam, and instrumentation and control EK exams.
- Statutory STCW safety training courses.
- Tutorials for IAMI EK written exams and MCA oral exam.
