MCA Signals Examination

About this course

Candidates for a deck officer Certificate of Competency are required to pass a UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Signals examination covering topics such as transmitting and receiving of Morse Code, identification of signal flags, understanding the single letter meaning of flags, and general communications.

Tutorials and learning materials are provided as part of our deck certification programmes and candidates will then arrange their examination date at their convenience during their attendance at the Academy. Advance bookings by candidates are not required.

NOTE: These examinations are provided for residential master/chief mate and chief mate students and, as such, these students will be offered first refusal of the dates before these exams can be offered to resit or external students. Cadet students should contact John Onslow with regard to exam dates.
