We provide the full range of tanker courses required under STCW, and in addition a range of specialist tanker courses covering petroleum, chemical and liquefied gas tanker operations.
View all our petrochemical/tanker courses
We have approval from the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for all courses required under STCW. Furthermore certain courses are audited and approved by the Classification Society Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The academy is also a member of professional bodies and associations such as Intertanko and SIGTTO and complies with their competency standards of training.
Delegates benefit from a dedicated petrochemical training division, with a team of master mariners who collectively have been in command of all the vessels we train upon. We combine technology with knowledge and experience, offering a unique package for handling different types of bulk liquids.
We provide an interactive setting where delegates are able to share and compare experiences, and ask questions of our experienced lecturing team. Actual shipboard equipment and scale ship models are used to further enhance the learning experience.
Safety issues relating to fire/explosions, personal safety, environmental risks and handling of substances are covered in depth and delegates will learn significant aspects of tanker training in:
A change of titles has been incorporated within STCW10, with new reference to 'basic' and 'advanced'. The pathways to demonstrate/evidence 'proficiency' and 'competence' have been specified. The separation of basic courses are split by oil and chemical tanker as one, and liquefied gas as another, and our courses contain all the industry relevant elements.
There is a major advantage of a classroom-based environment compared to computer-based training. It greatly enhances the learning experience, provides an opportunity for peer learning and aids comprehension and knowledge retention.
We are able to tailor-make tanker and terminal training relevant to your company's operations. Utilise our experience to develop a specific training programme that meets your needs. This can be delivered at your premises or scheduled and delivered at the academy. Please contact us so that one of our team can discuss your requirements.
We use our liquid cargo operations simulator (LICOS) to further develop the professional skills of officers who are engaged in the handling of bulk liquid cargoes by simulating all of the cargo operations conducted on a variety of tankers. All aspects of the planning and execution of operations and the solving of problems that may arise can be demonstrated and practised in the safe environment of the simulator. Find out more about LICOS simulation training and courses.
In order to comply with the STCW A-V requirements, and to be able to apply for the Dangerous Cargo Endorsement without delay, you must be in possession of a Training in Tanker Fire Fighting certificate to attend basic and advanced tanker cargo operations courses.
If you have not yet completed the tanker fire fighting element (which is a five-hour standalone course), we can offer this training combined in:
A Training in Tanker Fire Fighting certificate is issued upon completion of this course.
In the near future, this combined training will be extended to delegates attending Training in Advanced Oil Tanker Cargo Operations and Training in Advanced Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations.
