Our liquid cargo operations simulator (LICOS) provides real time simulation of the cargo systems on LNG, LPG and oil tankers.

Through L3 'WISE Intelligent System Technology' we are able to replicate real time effects of all operational issues. The mathematical models developed allow exact replication of temperatures, pressures, levels, flow rates, statistical information, and value opening and closing timing. Our technology allows for simultaneous control of all parameters. We use an MPRI simulator, which was originally developed at Warsash and is approved by DNV as a Class A maritime simulator.
All courses follow a logical voyage cycle, with cargo operations conducted in real time. For the purpose of the exercise and delegate time, the cargo operations are broken down to cover the most critical parts. This would typically be the beginning and end of an operation, such as the start of loading and the topping off of cargo tanks.
Each operation is preceded by a briefing suitable for the experience level of the delegates and discusses the underlying principles behind the operation, the equipment to be used within the operation, and the practical application of the principles to conduct the operation. Delegates then take the theory and put it into practice by conducting the operation themselves.
The simulator consists of the following models, based on twelve different vessel types:
Our simulator classroom station is deliberately limited to a maximum of six delegates. Each person can operate their own vessel via four high-resolution screens: two for cargo and ballast operations, one for stability and one for operations manual.
Delegates are monitored and assisted where necessary and receive feedback on operational performance. Each officer also has a communication system enabling management of deck personnel and communication with the engine room and terminal where appropriate.
Delegates benefit from a team of petrochemical/tanker master mariners, all of whom provide a wealth of experience on the vessel types they train on. By running exercises and providing feedback from the lecturer an effective learning environment is encouraged. A review is given after each exercise in order for delegates to assess the faults that may have been added and to enable them to understand the principles.
Courses are ideal for officers who are about to become chief officer or cargo engineer for the first time. Our course bookings are scheduled by demand, please contact us so that one of our team can discuss your requirements.
