New Full Mission Engine Room Simulator Officially Opened

Engine Room Simulator OpenedApproximately 50 guests attended WMA's official opening ceremony and seminar of the Full Mission Engine Room Simulator on Thursday 4 October.

Guests included MP for Fareham Mark Hoban, leading figures from the maritime industry, and representatives from shipping companies, operators, management and training companies, the Chamber of Shipping, MCA (including Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey), Lloyds Register, training board - IMarEST and members of the press.

Andrew Hair, Director of Warsash Maritime Academy, said, "The official launch of our new Full Mission Engine Room Simulator yesterday by our Guest of Honour, Mr Milhar Fuazudeen (Head of the International Maritime Organisation’s Maritime Training and Human Element Section) was a great success and very well received by the industry guests in attendance, who have already provided us with some excellent feedback. This state-of-the-art facility is the final stage of a three-year, £5 million investment plan by Southampton Solent University in ship simulation capability, to keep Warsash Maritime Academy at the very forefront of international maritime education and training.

Upon declaring this new facility open, Mr Fuazudeen said, "This brand new Full Mission Engine Room Simulator is a very impressive multi-functional training tool that covers a wider spectrum of training than ever before. It will, no doubt, further enhance the position of Warsash Maritime Academy as an outstanding centre of excellence in providing education and training for seafarers from around the world. As to the expertise of the trainers at the Academy, who have a thorough understanding of on-board systems and of the shipping industry’s training needs, it can only add greater lustre to the training that will be provided for many more decades to come to seafarers from all corners of the world."

The new simulator has already seen its first set of students, and further courses are now well underway.
