Warsash Maritime Academy (WMA), the UK’s only provider of manufacturer-approved Transas ECDIS training, is delighted to have now seen the 200th student complete the Transas specific ECDIS course. Michael Latimer, Chief Officer from BP was the 200th student and is pictured here being congratulated by Chris Lowe, WMA's ECDIS course manager.
The five-day combined generic and Transas specific ECDIS training course is conducted on the Transas Navi Sailor 4000 ECDIS, and the 200 delegates who have undertaken the course are from across the spectrum of the international maritime industry. A proportion of students on the course, work on superyachts, who are generally in the process of going paperless with Transas ECDIS.
In addition to WMA’s full mission bridge simulator and five multi-purpose simulators, all deck officers benefit from undertaking the certification programmes from three dedicated ECDIS suites.
As well as working with cutting-edge technology, the students also benefit from WMA’s Transas-authorised lecturers who have completed the Transas ECDIS instructor course in Hamburg.
Norman Geier, TRANSAS Training Manager said, “Training is the bottleneck in the ECDIS mandate timeline. Comprehensive and competent training is the key element in getting the most benefits out of ECDIS. The combination of the mandatory STCW conform training with the Type Specific Training, required from ISM Code as well as major Flagstate, provides a kick back for the shipping industry and enhances the learning effectiveness for the crews.
At Transas we constantly improve our training programs and extend our training network to be able to provide this service worldwide. We are proud to have Warsash Maritime Academy as a GET-Net partner in UK and their remarkable results prove their dedication to high quality and outstanding performance”.
