Hydros Cup practise thumbThe final preparations for the crew of ten officer cadets from Warsash are progressing well towards the Hydro’s Cup. The officer cadets have had several training days sailing the Academy’s J90 yachts on the Solent in preparation for the three days of competitive racing taking place at this year’s Hydro’s Cup Series in Marseilles next week (4-7 April).
The annual event is hosted by the ENMM, the French National Merchant Navy College in Marseilles with crews of Merchant Navy cadets taking part from colleges in Spain, UK, France, Germany and Belgium, some of whom enter several yachts crews as well as some solely consisting of female officer cadet crews.
The cost of chartering the yachts for the event is partially reduced by a generous sponsorship from Bourbon Offshore, but the remainder of the costs for the boat, travel and accommodation over the period met by local sponsors approached by the cadets themselves, in the run up to the event.
Thank you to the main sponsors for the WMA Hydro's Cup Team this year, which have been Sport Solent on behalf of Solent University, Nautilus International, The Warsash Association, and with shipping companies also sharing the costs of the event, particularly from those sponsoring cadets who are taking part in the sailing event.
We all wish cadets the very best of good luck with the races and envy them the warm weather in the hope that ours will also improve soon.
