On Saturday 2 December, 57 newly qualified navigation officers celebrated the completion of their three-year cadet training programme at their passing out ceremony.
Family and friends, sponsors, representatives from shipping organisations, and staff from the University and the Academy joined the cadets for the celebrations at the Novotel in Southampton.
The guest of honour Kathryn Nielson, Director of Merchant Navy Training Board congratulated the officer’s on their achievement as “our future seafarers”.
Speaking about the newly qualified officers' achievements, Captain Syamantak Bhattacharya, Director of the School of Maritime Science and Engineering, said: “It takes a lot of hard work and determination to get to where they are today. We wish these newly qualified navigation officers every success as they embark on their professional careers in worldwide shipping”.
