Project MariEMS in Barcelona

Project MariEMS in BarcelonaThe fourth multiplier event of project MariEMS (Maritime Energy Management Training Strategic Partnership) was held at the Faculty of Nautical Studies, University Polytechnic Catalonia, Barcelona, on 15 September 2017. The event was held during the MariEMS partners’ meeting and was titled: ‘Round Table: Maritime Energy Efficiency’.  

Senior lecturer, Zakirul Bhuiyan (lead investigator) presented the project to the audience, assisted by senior lecturer Kunal Project MariEMS in BarcelonaAnand (co-investigator). The event was attended by distinguished maritime professionals from the region, including the harbour master from the Port of Barcelona, the general manager of renowned technology company Invertone, the director of environment at the Port of Barcelona and the director of the European School of Short Sea Shipping.

Southampton Solent University is leading the Erasmus+ funded MariEMS project along with eight other partners across Europe, including four EU universities. This EU project is expected to help to reduce the energy usage on board ships, thereby reducing emissions and pollution. The project is also helping IMO and the EU in achieving their stated emission targets through better training for the management of energy on board vessels.
