Last summer we were delighted to welcome Michael Portillo and the Great British Railway Journeys production team to Warsash for some filming.
They were putting together the latest series of the BBC2 programme, which charted Michael's journey from Cromer, Norfolk to Brownsea Island, Dorset, using a copy of an Edwardian Bradshaw's guide. The final part of this journey took them along the south coast where Michael alighted at Swanwick station, just a couple of miles away from the Academy.
The book carried an advert for The American Line, and Michael was intrigued to know how seafarers train and prepare for a life at sea. So he paid us a visit!
This episode was screened on Friday 5 January. Find out what happened.
